Excerpts from "in the Basement of the Ivory Tower" by Professor X

In the article the author is talking about how he had to give a women in his class an F for a grade. He tells us about how it all went about and that he thought of giving her a passing grade just for her to go on to the next class in college. He began to think about everything that would happen if he did give her a passing grade and decided against it. It says he could not let that happen because he did not know if she was working for a paper or if it would get out that he pass a paper that was really an F paper. He did not want to be known for that. He goes on to say that he knew that the paper would fail and could not tell her that she was not ready for an Introductory English class. He also did not want to be sexist or ageist so he gave her the F.

I feel that the author gave his point well because he stuck to what he knew was right. He did not let someone pass that should not have. I see the author making the assumes that she would  fail just because she did not know how to use the web. I think by doing that he went into reading her paper by knowing this was going to be a F. I dont think he should have done that I feel you should give her a chance and he tired to help her by giving her some people that could help her with her writing. I would like to know why he did not go into more help with her himself outside of class to help her understand more.

I agree with the author by not just giving her a passing grade so she could move on to the next class. I disagree with the author by him not trying to help more with her not understanding it. I think he could have helped her a little more then what he did and I feel if he did so maybe she would have had a better paper then what she had.

I picked "I realize I have a lot of work to do" as my golden line because I feel that if she would have taken it to heart she would have had a better understanding and grade. I feel like if someone says they need more help and dont get it then they are trying to fail, but if they say they need help with something and get help they will do better. So I guess I like this line because it can help a lot to get help then try to do it by themselves. I feel like I try to do well in schools but there is always one class that you need a little extra help in. I always try to do my best but need help sometimes I cant do it all by myself its hard to do that.
